William Klein

California Museum of Photography

July 7 - September 9, 2018

Opening Reception

Saturday, July 7, 2018, 6pm - 8pm

American photographer William Klein (b. 1928 New York City) is most known for his street photography, a type of image-making wherein the photographer trawls the urban landscape and take images of strangers often unnoticed. Klein's particular style of street photography is chaotic and antagonistic, often photographing subjects confrontationally close.

The photographs in this exhibition are highlights from the California Museum of Photography's collection, and are accompanied by an introductory text by Susan Laxton, associate professor of the history of art at the University of California, Riverside.

UCR's College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and the City of Riverside have provided support.
